Comprehensive FAQs for Birth and Postpartum Doula Services
Most families book as soon as they reach their second trimester to ensure availability around their due date. However, I often have last-minute openings, so it's always worth reaching out. Early booking allows us to have a thorough consultation and planning meeting well before your baby arrives.
Do you work with breastfed babies?
Absolutely. I provide hands-on support for breastfeeding mothers, including positioning help and bringing the baby to you for feedings throughout the night. If you prefer, I can also bottle-feed expressed milk so you can get a longer stretch of uninterrupted sleep. My goal is to support whatever feeding journey you have chosen for your family.
What if I go into labor early?
I am on call for you starting two weeks before your estimated due date. If your little one decides to arrive earlier than expected, I do my absolute best to shift my schedule to accommodate your needs. We stay in close contact during the final weeks of your pregnancy so I can be ready when you are.
Can we customize packages?
Yes, every family's needs are unique, and my packages are designed to be flexible. Whether you need more nights per week or a specific shift length, we can discuss a custom plan during our initial consultation. I want to ensure the support you receive feels just right for your home and lifestyle.
What areas do you serve?
I primarily serve families located throughout Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. If you are outside these areas, please feel free to inquire, as I occasionally travel for extended support contracts. I love reaching families across our local communities to provide the care they need.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 50% non-refundable retainer is required to reserve your due date and ensure my availability for your family. If you need to cancel prior to the start of services, the retainer is kept to cover the reserved time. For detailed terms, we can review the full service contract during our planning phase.
Do you work with twins/multiples?
Yes. I gladly work with twins and multiples. Overnight support for more than one baby is more hands-on, so I focus on safe sleep setups, organized feeding plans, and soothing both (or all) babies in a calm, steady way. We’ll also talk through realistic rest expectations for parents so everyone feels as supported as possible.
Do you replace medical providers?
No. I do not provide medical care. I offer emotional, physical, and informational support alongside your medical team.
Do you provide housekeeping?
My postpartum recovery packages focus on maternal healing and newborn education. Light baby-related tasks may be included, but this is not a housekeeping service.
Is this only for first-time moms?
Not at all. Many experienced mothers benefit from structured recovery and support, especially when adjusting to multiple children.
How long do families typically book overnight care?
Most families book between 4–12 weeks depending on their needs and desired level of support.
